Competition Introduction
Nineteen schools are participating in the 2007 Otago Southland Grass Kart Challenge which launched on 29 March 2007.
Competing schools have been supplied with free Grass Kart kitsets, worth approximately $2000 each. These kitsets were donated by the Otago Polytechnic and Southern Institute of Technology, who along with Southern Group Training, Tools4Work, and the Navy, whole-heartedly support students into careers within the field of Mechanical Engineering.

Grass Karts are to be designed and built by teams of 3 - 8 students, who are expected to manage the whole process from start to finish with minimal adult assistance. Participating schools have been encouraged to link the challenge process to relevant unit and achievement standards/credits.
The 2007 Otago Southland Grass Kart Challenge has been specifically designed to give students hands on, practical experience where they can work within a team to build a tangible product. This experience will set them up for future work experience opportunities, onto an Engineering apprenticeship and into a fantastic career in the future.

The build team entrants from Central Southland College.
